Your Guide To The Actors Who Want To Play Cable In DEADPOOL 2

Every older tough guy you know wants this role.

Deadpool took the world by storm earlier this year, leading to almost instant talks of a sequel. While we don’t know exactly what that sequel’s story will entail, we do know that it’ll involve Cable, Marvel’s big, older, tough guy with a glowing eye.

Naturally, this has inspired a bunch of big, older tough guys to campaign for the role, usually through social media. But they are hard to keep straight. So here’s a handy guide to the biggest actors gunning for the role.

Stephen Lang

Stephen Lang has perhaps campaigned the hardest for the role of Cable. You probably know Lang from his villainous role in Avatar: The Last Airbender as well as countless other bad guy parts. He is very intense, and I am afraid of him.

Ron Perlman

Some may have trouble recognizing Ron Perlman as he played his most iconic roles (Hellboy, that cat from Beauty and the Beast, a different cat in The Island of Dr. Moreau) under layers of makeup and prosthetics. But he is a great actor, capable of offering warmth and menace in equal measure. He also has Cable’s hair.

Sam Saathoff

Sam Saathoff is a carpenter and bee-keeper in Southeast Kansas. He doesn’t know who Cable is. In his spare time he likes to watch people eat at Waffle House.

Dolph Lundgren

Dolph Lundgren has a long history of playing both heroes and villains. Lately, he’s been having a great career on the DTV circuit with occasional appearances in Expendables movies and a Coen Brothers adventure (unless you blinked). Like Sam Saathoff, he also doesn’t know who Cable is, but would happily play him if asked:

I haven’t watched a lot of these superhero movies; for some reason, I don’t know, I’m just busy making films. I did hear in… Deadpool, isn’t there a character named Cable that’s coming? Like, he’s a big guy? I guess I could kick some butt doing that, I suppose. We’ll see. When I saw the picture, he looks a little bit like Ivan Drago mixed with Gunner Jensen mixed with… I don’t know.

These are just the guys who have expressed interest in playing Cable. Fans have also put forth names like Liam Neeson and Kevin Nash. It’s possible none of these actors will end up with the role, however. We’ll just have to wait and see what the Hollywood gods choose to do. But my fingers are crossed for the bee-keeper guy.
