So here's an interesting development: Universal's back in the Battlestar Galactica game, and it sounds like Francis Lawrence may direct the film.
A new Battlestar Galactica movie has been in the cards for quite some time, changing hands between one writer or director for many years (see also: the Logan's Run remake that never quite materializes). This latest incarnation is said to pair Lawrence with screenwriter Lisa Joy, who's been working on HBO's Westworld.
The Playlist speculates that the runaway success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have stirred Universal into action, and that seems like a reasonable enough guess. Lawrence being interested probably helps matter, as well: dude's coming off not one, not two, but three blockbuster Hunger Games films. If you're Universal and that dude wants to direct your space opera, well, you probably let him have a go.
Lawrence's next film, a spy thriller by the name of Red Sparrow, will reunite him with Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence. Presumably, Battlestar Galactica will go in front of cameras after that.
What do you guys think? Will this be the iteration of Battlestar Galactica that finally makes it across the finish line? And if so, are you happy about Lawrence calling the shots? Sound off below.
