Unlike its predecessor, BLADE RUNNER 2 will feature a black person.

Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2 (or whatever the hell they end up calling it; my money's on "Blade Runner" not even being in the title) just gained another talented cast member: Oscar-nominated actor Barkhad Abdi.

This is an exciting development for several reasons. For one thing, Abdi's a talented actor with a very particular screen presence, and it'll be interesting to see how they fit that presence into the Blade Runner world. For another, it means that we have a whole bunch of "I'm the Blade Runner/replicant/captain now" gags to look forward to, none of which were played out long before you rushed down to the comments section to make them.

Abdi joins Villeneuve's already-stacked cast, which includes Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis, and Carla Juri.

We still know nothing about Blade Runner 2's plot beyond the fact that Ford will be reprising his role from the 1982 original, but we do know that frequent Villeneuve collaborator (and all-around legend) Roger Deakins is shooting this movie, and frankly that's all the reason you need to be hyped.

Blade Runner 2 arrives in 2017.
