SDCC 2016: Here’s A New Image From Luc Besson’s VALERIAN

In which Luc Besson returns to the big, sci-fi spectacle of THE FIFTH ELEMENT.

Over on Twitter, Luc Besson just revealed a brand-new image from Valerian in advance of the film's SDCC panel.

It definitely looks like a Luc Besson joint! Take a look.

What's Valerian about, anyway? I took a stroll over to IMDb and learned two things: one, IMDb says this movie's official title is Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets (yikes); and two, the plot apparently revolves around a "time-traveling agent" (the titular Valerian) who is "sent to investigate a galactic empire, along with his partner Laureline". Knowing Besson, things will turn out to be a lot more complicated than that.

As for the image: I'm not much of a DeHaan fan (sorry, Daniacs), and I'm getting a strong Ender's Game vibe from this photo, but still...I have learned not to second-guess Besson. Even when he misfires, he does it in an inarguably interesting way. Whatever Valerian turns out to be, I'll be there for it when it opens.

Speaking of which: we're still about a year out from that. Valerian arrives in theaters next July. Stay tuned for updates, and more from this year's SDCC.
