After some stellar DC footage, Warner Bros’ Comic Con panel moved on to Kong: Skull Island, a new take on the King Kong mythos ahead of his gigantic battle with Godzilla in a few years. And boy, oh boy, does he look ready:
Devin watched the trailer on the big screen at Hall H (was the screen big enough to contain the new Kong?) and he described it as “Apocalypse Now with Kong as Kurtz,” which really sums up how strange and amazing it looks. Much like Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, Jordan-Vogt Roberts really seems to have a handle on scale, giving Kong a massive presence even before he shows up.
The pièce de résistance for me though? That shot of the helicopters rack-focusing to a dragonfly. This is one gorgeous looking movie, and it’s going to feel almost dangerous on the big screen.
