Here are the facts, as I understand them: Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen, two very talented performers, are making a dark comedy together. The film is called Ingrid Goes West.
This is, quite frankly, all I need to be interested in this project, but Variety's gone one step further and provided us with a plot synopsis:
The film follows Ingrid Thorburn (played by Plaza), a mentally unstable young woman who becomes obsessed with Taylor Sloane (Olsen), a social media “influencer” with a seemingly-perfect life. When Ingrid decides to drop everything and move to the West Coast to befriend Taylor in real life, her behavior turns unsettling and increasingly dangerous.
To recap: Ingrid Goes West is a movie about a mentally unstable person who attempts to forcibly befriend (read: begins stalking) a social media personality, with hilarious - and possibly even dangerous - results. Why, this sounds both timely and relevant to my interests. Of course I will watch this movie. Here's hoping they really dig into the horror of social media in the year 2016.
First time director Matt Spicer is directing from a script by Allan Mandelbaum. Beyond that, there's nothing else to report at the moment, but we'll keep you informed as updates arrive.
