ABC Is Still Talking About How They’re Talking About A STAR WARS TV Show

Let's talk about it.

Once upon a time, before Disney bought Lucasfilm, George Lucas was planning a big Star Wars TV series. Unlike most other shows, the story goes, this one was planned out in advance; dozes, if not a hundred, scripts were written. It would be set in the galactic underworld, be about bounty hunters and assassins. The Sopranos meets Star Wars is how we referred to it back in the day because this was so long ago that The Sopranos was still our go-to reference for dark anti-hero TV.

That show fell away when the Disney came in. Will it ever come back? Nobody knows, but for the third year in a row somone at ABC has said that the network, which is also owned by Disney, would be interested in a Star Wars show. According to Variety:

“As a fan I would absolutely love to say yes,” Dungey said during her executive session at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “We have had conversations with [Lucasfilm] and we will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand onto our programming.

“{Talks} are ongoing. We don’t really have an official timeline yet.”

So yeah, they'd love a show but who knows. It's a bit of non-news that we will probably get every year for the next few years until someone pulls the trigger and actually makes a show. This has been your 2016 version of it, and I hope you liked it.
