THE CRAZIES Director Breck Eisner May Be Directing That FRIDAY THE 13TH Reboot

FRIDAY THE 13TH reboots will continue until morale improves.

Today, we raise the "Friday The 13th Reboot Threat Level" back to orange in the wake of this exclusive report, which just popped up over at Deadline Hollywood:

Breck Eisner is in talks to direct a the feature reboot of the beloved horror franchise Friday the 13th which is being brought back to life at Paramount Pictures a studio that has had had some great success re-imagining franchises such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Setting aside the news for a moment: can we all take a second to appreciate this sentence? The unnecessary words. The sly "brought back to life" gag. The qualification of "great success" via the word "some". It's a symphony.

But I digress. Getting back to the business at hand...

As with Turtles, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes will be producing the project. The film is expected to be released sometime next year.

Wow, a Friday The 13th reboot produced by Platinum Dunes? I feel like we've heard this one before. I feel like we've heard this "sometime next year" thing before, as well. Let's check in with our official Friday The 13th correspondent, Brian Collins, to see if he has anything to say about this:

I really have nothing left in the tank. It's been almost a decade.

So the rest of this is par for the course, but the involvement of Breck Eisner - that's certainly a new development!

You'll recall that Eisner directed 2010's mildly-received The Crazies (he is also, tragically, the director of 2005's Sahara). Will he be a good fit for the Friday The 13th franchise? I have no idea! The BMD staff cannot seem to come to a consensus on whether or not The Crazies was "good" (I voted in the affirmative), so I'll let you guys work that out in the comments below.
