The First DARK TOWER Footage Will Debut At This Year’s EW POPFEST

Take note, Los Angeles-based Stephen King nerds.

If, like me, you've been wondering when you might be able to see the first footage from Nikolaj Arcel's The Dark Tower, wonder no more: a summary of events from this year's EW Popfest has made it official:

What is the EW Popfest? I confess to you that I had no idea, so I consulted the EW Popfest FAQ page. Turns out, the EW Popfest offers fans the chance to:

"Come face-to-face with your TV hero, be the first to see MOVIE footage and hear behind-the-scenes stories from the director and cast, check out top bands sampling a variety of MUSIC, listen to popular authors read from this year’s biggest BOOKS, dive into cutting-edge GAMING and Virtual Realty experiences, plus much more!"

Up until about ten minutes ago, my theory was that the first trailer for The Dark Tower would debut the second week of October, so that it could be attached to Ron Howard's Inferno (opening October 14th). Specifically, I suspected the trailer might be released the Sunday before, on October 9th (10/9 = 10 + 9 = 19), but this seems to blow that theory out of the water. Damn. And here I thought I was being clever.

So what exactly will Sony be screening at Popfest? We have no idea, of course, but a trailer seems like a safe bet. Will the footage end up online shortly after debuting at Popfest, for those of us who can't be in Los Angeles October 29th-30th? No idea about that, either, but you can bet your ass I'll be keeping my ear to the ground on that front, and will let you know if I hear anything.

Stay tuned, Tower junkies.
