The INSIDE Remake Will Open This Year’s Sitges Film Festival

This one has a lot to live up to.

According to the good folks over at Bloody Disgusting, Miguel Ángel Vivas' Inside remake will open this year's Sitges Film Festival in Catalonia, Spain. The remake, which is something of a local production, stars Rachel Nichols (Raze) and Laura Harring (Mulholland Drive). If it's anything like the original, I imagine it'll make for a particularly grisly opening-night experience for everyone attending Sitges this year.

We've known this remake was coming for some time now, but I confess that I haven't been keeping close tabs on it; that Laura Harring is playing The Woman was absolutely news to me. What an inspired choice for that role! I suspect that, much like Béatrice Dalle before her, Harring will be using her gigantic eyes to terrifying effect.

If you haven't seen Inside (2007), here's the setup:

Pregnant and depressed, a young widow tries to rebuild her life following the fateful car accident where she lost her husband and partially lost her hearing. Now, about to go into labor, she’s living in a remote house in the suburbs when, one Christmas night, she receives an unexpected visit from another woman with a devastating objective: to rip the child she’s carrying from inside her. But a mother’s fury when it comes to protecting her child should never be underestimated. Rachel Nichols and Laura Harring play the two main roles in this brutal and bloody hand-to-hand combat.

I'm of the opinion that the original Inside is one of the best, gnarliest horror films ever made (that header image is from the original), so Vivas' remake has a lot to live up to. Here's hoping that he's pulled it off. No word yet on when we'll get to see it here in the States, but while we're waiting to find out, here's a brand-new poster for you to look at.
