MOULIN ROUGE Is Finally Coming To Broadway

How has this not happened already?

This morning, Deadline revealed that Global Creatures ("the outfit behind Walking With Dinosaurs — The Arena Spectacular") has partnered director Alex Timbers and screenwrite John Logan (Skyfall) to produce what we have to assume will be an eye-popping Broadway adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge.

According to Deadline, work on the project is already well underway, but all other specifics - the show's production timeline, the cast, which venue might be playing home to the show - will be announced at some point in the future.

Honestly, the most surprising thing about this is that Moulin Rouge isn't already on Broadway. You'd think this would've happened a long time ago (maybe it did and I'm forgetting; you'll never believe it, but I'm not what you'd call "well-versed" in musical theater).

Oh, well. Considering Global Creatures' track record, I'm reasonably confident the final product will be a legit spectacle, and if Logan and Timbers manage to capture all the engergy, warmth, and good-natured insanity of Luhrmann's original film, it'll probably be a hit, as well. Stay tuned for more on this one as the situation develops (and maybe start camping out for tickets now).
