For whatever reason Michael Cera hasn’t been in as much stuff recently. Or at least relative to those years where he seemed to be in almost everything. Perhaps he decided that a little Cera goes a long way and gave us a break.
He is ramping up again, however. For one thing, we’ll hear him as the voice of Robin in The Lego Batman Movie. And if this following bit comes to pass, we’ll also see him in this big new Aaron Sorkin movie.
The Hollywood Reporter claims Cera is in negotiations to join Molly’s Game, which already stars Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba (who really might be in every movie currently in production). The film is about an ex-skier who finds success running underground poker games for famous Hollywood folk, until she gets arrested by the FBI, of course.
Cera would play someone named Player X, a celebrity who plays at the game and develops some kind of special relationship with Molly. I don’t know if they’re noticeably basing him on someone we should know or what, but I’m excited to find out.
Molly’s Game, which was of course written by Aaron Sorkin, will also serve as the writer’s directorial debut. I’m sure he had lots of opportunities to learn how to film a walk-and-talk, so this should probably be in moderately safe hands. Like, say, a full house or four of a kind.
