It's obviously way too early to tell how FX's Atlanta is going to fare in the long run (I've read that things move pretty slow, plot-wise, and that the show's pace may turn off some viewers), but if the rest of the season is as strong as last night's premiere, I think we're in for something special.
The series, created by and starring former Community star Donald Glover, seems to be generating generally strong reviews, and sorta defies easy classification. It's a comedy, but it's also a drama. It's also weirder than you might expect, mature (and pleasantly immature!) in surprising ways, filled with strong performances, and looks absolutely gorgeous (shoutout to relative newcomer Hiro Murai, who made the leap from directing music videos to direct seven of the ten episodes which make up Atlanta's first season). By the time the pilot wrapped, I was hooked.
For those of you who missed last night's pilot, I have good news: the entire thing's been uploaded to YouTube, and I've embedded it for you below so you can catch up with the rest of us.
I'm curious to hear what you guys make of this show, so I encourage you to give it a whirl (bookmark it for later, if necessary!) and let us now what you thought in the comments below. You guys digging this thing as much as I am?
