Here's something we missed last Friday that is no less exciting on Monday: Mark Romanek has signed on to direct a new movie called Septillion to One. And get this - it's a rom-com.
Here's how Deadline's describing the film:
"An overzealous former FBI agent who has been relegated to the fraud unit of the Texas State Lottery begins investigating a beautiful and shrewd woman who had inexplicably defied all odds and hit the lottery jackpot three times. He realizes the odds are over one in a billion for this to happen, creating a game of cat and mouse with the suspect, with whom he ultimately falls head over heels in love."
Mark Romanek signing onto any film is worth getting excited about, but this sounds very unlike the sort of thing we might normally associate with the director of Never Let Me Go, the criminally undervalued One Hour Photo, and a whole bunch of weird-ass Nine Inch Nails videos (Romanek was also once attached to The Wolf Man, but famously dropped out of the film just before production began).
I've got a copy of Adam R. Perlman and Graham Sack's Septillion To One screenplay around here somewhere. Guess it's high time I gave that thing a read. Any of you guys read it already? If so, what'd you think?
