Casting on Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s untitled Star Wars/Han Solo spinoff continues apace, with news coming from Variety today that Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz, and Naomi Scott were all in London this week to test for the project’s female lead.
Speculation immediately hit, and continues here, right in this sentence, that the actresses are possibly testing for the role of Sana Starros, a character who first appeared in the comics last year claiming to be Solo’s estranged wife. (Spoiler: she really wasn’t.) It’s certainly possible the female lead of Lord & Miller’s film is the same character from the comics, though historically the Star Wars big shots in Hollywood have never been all that beholden to characters birthed in ancillary materials. I hear from high-level nerds that the comics are now “canon," though, so who the hell knows. You go tell Lawrence Kasdan what’s canon; leave me alone.
No further word on whether Donald Glover is still in the running for L’il Lando, but other sites felt the need to mention him in this casting news, so let’s tick that box here as well.
The film, written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan, will star Alden Ehrenreich in the role originated by Harrison Ford, and will open on May 25, 2018.
BMD is, of course, #TeamPutTessaThompsonInEverything, but officially we wish all three actresses good luck as the film’s creative team zeroes in on a final choice.
