This morning we were treated with a title, poster and mission statement regarding Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine film, Logan. You can check out all that stuff here, or you could just enjoy this summation: Wolverine says “Fuck” in the first minutes of the film and holds a girl’s hand at some point in the movie.
Now The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez has a whole lot of information to help us put these pieces together. If you don’t want to know what the movie is about, consider the following a fiery spoiler hell.
According to Gonzalez, the film takes place in 2024, a time when mutant births are in decline and a pesky government organization is using what mutant children they do have as killing machines. Wolverine ends up taking care of a kid who is basically X-23, a girl with two Wolverine-like claws.
But that’s not all! Wolverine is sick and old and not healing much anymore. He drives a limo. He also (with the help of an albino mutant named Caliban - played by Stephen Merchant) has to take care of Professor X, who is now old and unstable and seemingly senile.
So… sounds like a lot of fun! Actually, no, it sounds like a huge bummer. But it could be interesting. An old Logan who is weak and can no longer heal might be exactly what this series needs to generate actual tension. It also feels likely to make the finality of this entry somewhat certain, if you catch my drift. I hope the movie ends with Logan and Charles embracing each other as they slip into the cold clutches of death, but that’s just me.
