James Wan Says AQUAMAN Will Be RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK Meets ROMANCING THE STONE

Cheat Sheet For Millennials: ROMANCING THE STONE is a 1984 action-adventure-romance starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and the great Danny DeVito.

On Wednesday evening, Aquaman director James Wan made an appearance at the Australians in Film Awards Gala in Hollywood. If you're guessing he was asked something about Aquaman while walking the red carpet, you're correct. If you're guessing he then said something very encouraging about Aquaman, congrats: you're two-for-two. If you're guessing he said the plot of Aquaman would be loosely based on Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach, that is a foolish guess and you should be ashamed.

What Wan actually said was:

“I kind of don’t want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story. It’s ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.”

That's Wan speaking to Entertainment Tonight, and we like where his head's at.

Wan, a director known primarily for his work in the horror genre, has never really attempted "swashbuckling action". Sure, he delivered one of the most intense, over-the-top entries in the Fast And The Furious series, so he's certainly worked with a big budget before, but action-adventure a la Romancing The Stone and/or Raiders Of The Lost Ark is something we'd definitely be interested in seeing him put his stamp on.

And, y'know, doubly so, considering that he'll be doing it in the weird world of Aquaman. What is this movie even going to look like? I kind of can't wait to find out.

Stay tuned for more on Aquaman as it becomes available.
