Joss Whedon Says He’s Working On A WWII Horror Script

Yes, please.

Yesterday, in a new interview with Complex, we learned that Avengers: Age Of Ultron director Joss Whedon would be totally down for directing a Star Wars movie. That was big sorta-news! Everyone was very excited! What a great idea!

Well, here's another great idea, from the same interview: Joss Whedon says he's working on a WWII horror script.

"I’m in the middle of a screenplay that I am extremely passionate about, and I am going to be extremely passionate about it again on November 9. It’s definitely a departure from the things that I’m known for. It’s as dark as anything I’ve ever written."

As dark as anything you've ever written, did you say?

"Yeah, because I just said, ‘OK, id, your turn.’ I would write scenes and be like, ‘Oh this is great! I shouldn’t be allowed near people.’ It’s a historical fiction slash horror movie about a time when the world was going insane, World War II. I got to tell you, I was in Germany and Poland doing research for this movie and I was seeing so many parallels (to the U.S.). And I know it’s a shopworn thing to compare the orange guy to the little guy with the mustache, but you see things, indelible things in terms of propaganda, the state of the country, and the parallels are eerie as fuck."

Look, I don't know what Joss Whedon's WWII horror movie might be about, but I think we can infer from the quote above that it'd be fairly uncomfortable. And timely! WWII's been done a million times over on film, but I feel like - if anything - it's been underserved by the horror genre. I'd be all aboard this idea, especially with Whedon at the helm. Here's hoping someone lets him make it.

Stay tuned for more on this as it becomes available. While you're waiting, feel free to name your favorite WWII horror film in the comments below. My pick's the Amazon related product.
