JESSICA JONES Director S.J. Clarkson Will Kick Off THE DEFENDERS
When news broke that Jessica Jones season 2 would only have women directors, something that seemed to unite both those who agreed and disagreed with the decision was that pushing for women in creative roles shouldn’t just be limited to stories with female leads. I agree too, and it appears the folks at Marvel/Netflix share that sentiment. Per Deadline, S.J. Clarkson will set the tone for television’s next big superhero outing, team-up series The Defenders.
The show will feature Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and a villain played by Sigourney Weaver. That’s exciting stuff, and Clarkson’s involvement means that unlike so much of Netflix’s Marvel content, the series won’t have trouble capturing audiences’ attention early on.
Clarkson was responsible for the intriguing “AKA Ladies Night” and “AKA Crush Syndrome,” Jessica Jones’ first two episodes, so it’ll be interesting to see how she sets up the eight-episode The Defenders when it premieres late 2017.
