Original SUSPIRIA Star Jessica Harper Joins The Cast Of The SUSPIRIA Remake

Huh. Didn't see that one coming.

Well, this is an interesting turn of events. Via Entertainment Weekly:

Amazon Studios has confirmed that actress Jessica Harper will appear in the company’s remake of Suspiria, which started shooting Monday in Italy. Harper was the star of Dario Argento’s original 1977 film, one of the most beloved and influential horror movies of all-time.

The new version of Suspiria is directed by Luca Guadagnino (A Bigger Splash) and stars Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Mia Goth.

The Suspiria remake - long in development, and apparently finally in front of cameras as of today - has been a point of contention for original director Dario Argento, who thinks the remake is better left un-made and claims that no one ever contacted him about the project. It's not completely unbelievable that Harper would climb aboard Guadagnino's remake, but it is interesting, in a very mild "Huh, didn't see that one coming" sorta way.

It's currently unknown what role Harper will be playing in the film, but if I had to guess I'd say she'll probably be playing a witch (total shot in the dark, don't @ me). Those of you with thoughts and feelings to share about this development are encouraged to do so in the comments below.
