It was rumored, and now it's official.

So far, all we really know about Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is that Boyega will be playing the son of Stacker Pentecost, the stone-cold badass played by Idris Elba in Guillermo del Toro's original film, and that it's very likely that giant monsters will get punched in the face by giant robots. Honestly, what more do you need to know?

The film's being directed by Steven S. DeKnight, a dude who's known primarily for his work as a writer and/or producer on shows like Buffy, Daredevil and Smallville. In addition to Boyega, the cast also includes Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Levi Meaden, Adria Arjona and - somewhat tragically - Scott Eastwood. Other cast members from the original are also expected to return, but as of now we have no idea who they might be.

Stay tuned for more updates on Pacific Rim: Maelstrom as they roll in. I'm guessing it won't be long before we learn more plot details.

You guys excited for this one or what?
