Here's some good news for our British readers: according to IndieWire, the good folks at BFI have completed work on a 4K restoration of Richard Kelly's Donnie Darko, and they're putting it back in theaters next month. America, it appears this still isn't your week.
Here's a brand-new trailer cut to celebrate the restoration:
I caught a Donnie Darko screening a few months ago with Richard Kelly in attendance, and I'm happy to report that Kelly's first film holds up very well. It's legitimately exciting to find out that the BFI put this restoration together, and if I were a betting man I'd wager that Americans will get their own chance to see the restoration (or buy it on Blu-ray) in the not-too-distant future.
The 4K restoration of Donnie Darko will arrive overseas in December. It will arrive elsewhere (TBD). Stay tuned.
