Hot on the heels of this morning's plot reveal, here's the first trailer for Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049.
It. Is. Fantastic.
Gosling in a trenchcoat! A city buried under sand (or dust, or whatever)! Harrison Ford rocking the at-home casual Blade Runner look!
I'm legitimately gobsmacked by this trailer. It looks and feels perfect. This is exactly what I was hoping for: a successful marriage between the aesthetic introduced in Ridley Scott's 1982 original, filtered through the very particular sensibilities of Villeneuve. You might be mad about a sequel to Blade Runner, but I can't imagine anyone denying that this film certainly looks a piece with that film ... and that the imagery captured here is very compelling, indeed. Haunting, even!
As a reminder, here's that plot synopsis from this morning:
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
What do you guys think? You as blown away by this footage as we are, or are you still giving this entire venture the side-eye? Sound off in the comments below. If you need us, we'll be over here watching this trailer on repeat for the next hour or so.
