While we know a fair bit about the upcoming Wonder Woman – the time period, the good guys, and how Diana comes to find herself in the world of men – what’s been sort of murky thus far is the film’s main bad guy. Thanks to French magazine Studio Ciné Live however, we now know it’ll be none other than Ares, the God of war himself.
The issue isn’t online yet, but Les Toiles Heroiques has acquired (and kindly translated) the pertinent information:
“Behind these scientific formulas, there is a deadly gas that could well annihilate humanity. It turns out that it might interest Ares, the god of war. He is jealous of humanity, which is a creation of his father, the deceased Zeus.”
[They also have some set images which you can find here]
If Ares has already been cast, it’s either a well-kept secret, or one hidden right under our noses. We don’t yet know who Danny Huston is playing (though to be fair, Saïd Taghmaoui gives off a much more “Ares” vibe), and the identity of Elena Anaya’s masked assailant is a mystery as well. Is she throwing Mustard Gas? Something deadlier? Is she working for Ares, or in her own-self interest? Are she and Ares lovers? Is she a figment of his imagination? Is she Ares’ mum? Your guess is as good as mine.
We’ll find out together when Wonder Woman arrives on June 2nd. She’s probably Ares’ mum, though.
