According to a new report at Variety, Moonlight's Andre Holland has entered into negotiations to join Steve McQueen's Widows. If he signs on the line which is dotted, he'll be joining the already-cast Viola Davis, and working from a script co-written by McQueen and Gone Girl's Gillian Flynn.
If you're thinking, "Well, sure, I guess that all sounds pretty good", you've probably forgotten what Widows is about. It sounds great:
Based on the 1983 British miniseries about a caper gone wrong, the story follows four armed robbers who are killed in a failed heist attempt, leaving their widows to finish the job.
To recap: Widows is:
- A female-driven heist movie...
- ...co-starring Viola Davis and maybe Andre Holland
- ...directed by Steve McQueen
- ...and co-written by Gillian Flynn.
I'm not sure what further information you might need to get excited. Everything about this sounds look a good idea (I'm particularly curious to see what McQueen does with a heist movie; the involvement of Flynn makes me think this'll be pulpier than the average McQueen joint).
No word on when Widows might go in front of cameras, but we'll keep you informed as updates roll in. Start getting excited in the comments below.
