Thanks to the process of elimination, most folks guessed Music Meister would be responsible for the next Flash/Supergirl crossover being musical, but we should’ve figured he’d be played by Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist’s fellow Glee alum Darren Criss. Gustin has been trying to bring his friend and co-star aboard The Flash for two years now, and a song-and-dance superhero hour feels like the perfect opportunity.
According to TV Line, Criss will play the villainous Music Meister, a goofy musical hypnotist who first appeared in the equally goofy animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold. That’s… kind of perfect for this versions of the DC Universe. He’s never shown up in the comics to my knowledge (he was last seen in a LEGO: Batman game!), but his backstory involves being bullied for singing in a choir, which is pretty goddamn Glee if you ask me, a person who has only seen the Wicked episode.
Also appearing and showing off their musical talents are Jesse L. Martin’s Joe West, Victor Garber’s Martin Stein, Jeremy Jordan’s Winn Schott, John Barrowman’s Malcolm Merlyn, and Carlos Valdes’ Cisco Ramon. Given that Merlyn originated on Arrow and Stein is over on Legends of Tomorrow, I guess you can technically classify this as another four-show crossover.
Yes. Yes you can. Let me have this.
The crossover begins at the end of Supergirl on March 20th, followed by a full-blown musical episode of The Flash entitled “Duet” on March 21st. Spoiler warning, apparently this is how Barry defeats Music Meister:
