Iko Uwais, headliner of The Raid, The Raid 2: Berandal and The Raid 3: The Force Awakens, is a must-see action star. In fact, they appear to be marketing his next film Headshot by pushing his involvement with those first two films pretty heavily. And why wouldn’t they? They dude can act, he can sure as hell fight, and once he’s ready to take on a role entirely in English, he’ll probably end up in a bunch of American movies.
In the meantime, here’s this:
I’m not going to lie, there’s something very weird about this trailer. For one thing, it’s got voiceover that doesn’t feature anywhere in the film. That’s not a new phenomenon for trailers, but what stands out is that the voiceover is in English, while the movie is almost entirely in Indonesian, none of which is actually featured in the trailer. You wouldn’t know it wasn't in English unless someone told you otherwise!
Of course, it shouldn’t be all that surprising given the conventional wisdom about American moviegoers and subtitles, though this campaign also does the film a huge disservice by hiding just how violent it is. It’s crazy violent, y’all!
In any case, Headshot hits cinemas March 3, and it’s the rare movie that I’d recommend based on the inventive action alone. Two words: Paper. Cutter.
