Hulu’s THE HANDMAID’S TALE Gets A Superbowl Trailer

Football fans are gonna love this.

'Round these parts, we're pretty damn excited about Hulu's upcoming The Handmaid's Tale adaptation, so any and all new footage definitely has our attention. This Sunday, it will also have the attention of the millions of people watching the Superbowl. That's an ... interesting juxtaposition of demographics!

Here's the ad:

For those of you who aren't familiar with the Margaret Atwood novel The Handmaid's Tale is based on, here's an official plot synopsis:

Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized ‘return to traditional values'. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

So it's a dystopian sci-fi thing explicitly dealing with environmental issues and women's rights. Not the sort of thing one might normally expect to find being advertised to football fans, in other words, but hey: we're just glad to see it happening.

The Handmaid's Tale hits Hulu on April 26th. We cannot wait to see it.
