Mondo’s Year-Long Kubrick Celebration Continues With 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
Back in January, we learned that the good folks at Mondo and the Alamo Drafthouse were teaming up for a year-long celebration of the late, great Stanley Kubrick. There'd be specialty screenings, collectible merchandise, clothing - all kinds of cool stuff.
The whole thing kicked off last month with a one-night-only screening of Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (and some rad Clockwork Orange wear). Now it's time for phase two: 2001: A Space Odyssey screenings at the Drafthouse ... and one-of-a-kind t-shirts.
Here's the news, directly from the Alamo Drafthouse website:
Open the pod bay doors, HAL…
This April, Alamo Drafthouse and Mondo’s yearlong homage to visionary director Stanley Kubrick continues, and it’s a big one.
For one night only — April 3rd — Alamo Drafthouse locations across the country will celebrate one of the greatest films ever made, Kubrick’s 1968 adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. These screenings will happen on the 49th anniversary of the date the landmark film opened in American theaters.
Tickets include a one-of-a-kind t-shirt paying tribute to the haunting scene of astronaut Dr. Poole tumbling in the vastness of space. Each shirt produced will feature Poole floating in a different location on the shirt, meaning every shirt is unique and no two will be alike.
Want more Kubrick? A line of officially licensed 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY apparel drawn from original film elements will be released in April, joining items from A CLOCKWORK ORANGE on mondotees.com.
Yes, there's more 2001: A Space Odyssey gear to come, but if you buy tickets for the Drafthouse's April 3rd screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey, you'll get one of these one-of-a-kind t-shirts at the same time. No two are alike! Each shirt features the doomed Dr. Poole floating in a different spot. Maybe yours will look like this...
...or maybe it'll look like this...
...or maybe it'll look like that...
...hell, it might even look like this. You just won't know when you pick up your shirt; every last one will be unique to the buyer. That's pretty damn cool!
So, how do you get yours? Again, just make sure you have the night of April 3rd free, head on over to this page at the Alamo Drafthouse website, and make your ticket purchases as need. Supplies last as long as tickets last, so good luck!
What do you guys think of the shirts? Have you ever had the chance to see 2001: A Space Odyssey theatrically (personal note: I caught the film in 70MM at the Alamo Ritz a few years ago and it melted my face clean off my skull; I recommend the experience).
