KUBO Director Getting That TRANSFORMERS Cash With Bumblebee Spinoff

It’s a dirty job but someone’s gotta do it.

No one is really asking for a Bumblebee spinoff. The character started out in the first Transformers movie with some semblance of a personality, but the films that followed blew that completely. I don’t even know what he is now.

Except I know he’s soon going to be the star of his own movie. And if there has to be a Bumblebee movie, the best we can hope for is at least a good director in charge of it.

So it’s kind of nice to discover that this director will be none other than Travis Knight, director of Kubo and the Two Strings, one of last year’s very best movies. I’m not saying the quality of Kubo makes this guy Transformers-proof, but it’s an optimistic start for the film.

Knight is also the CEO of Laika, which makes one wonder how this bodes for the future of that company. Were they to shut their doors, that would be a sad sight indeed.

According to Borys Kit, some other directors up for the job included Jaume Collet-Sera (ha!), Rick Famuyiwa, Seth Gordon and the Nee Brothers. I’m happy it went to Knight. It would really be something to have a good Transformers movie.
