According to a new report over at Deadline, Armie Hammer - most recently seen crushing it in Ben Wheatley's Free Fire - has signed on for the director's next effort, Freakshift., where he'll co-star with Alicia Vikander.
Here's the news:
Armie Hammer will star with Alicia Vikander in the Ben Wheatley-directed Freakshift, the action thriller about a band of misfit cops who hunt down and kill nocturnal underground monsters. She’s the lead female protagonist and Hammer plays her love interest, with production gearing up for August.
Wheatley's output has always leaned fairly dark (it's one of the reasons we at Birth.Movies.Death. love him so much), but Freakshift represents his most supernatural effort to date: cops hunting down and killing "nocturnal underground monsters"? I'm picturing Ben Wheatley doing something in the vein of Attack The Block and it's very exciting, indeed.
On a related/personal note: with apologies to my co-worker Evan Saathoff (who remains firmly in the bag for Sharlto Copley), Armie Hammer was my absolute favorite thing in Free Fire, so I'm thrilled to hear that he's joining forces with Wheatley again.
Stay tuned for more on Freakshift as it becomes available.
