Amazon Picks Up MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL For Two Seasons

Amy Sherman-Palladino's '50s-set dramedy leaps past the pilot phase.

Great news! Amazon has picked up Amy Sherman-Palladino's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for two seasons. The pilot (reviewed here) has been available for viewing and voting (well, viewer feedback) for less than a month, via Amazon's unusual pilot season process. And the episode - funny, smart, original, beautifully directed, about a 1950s housewife who becomes a stand-up comedian - made a big impression.

'In her onstage debut, Mrs. Maisel killed and had audiences responding overwhelmingly with digital applause,' Amazon head of comedy and drama Joe Lewis said. 'Like any great young stand-up, we’re excited to see what she has to say next and for a long time to come. That made it an easy decision to order two seasons from Amy and her incredible cast. We can’t wait to bring it to customers soon.'

This is Amazon's first multiple-season pickup from a pilot, and it's thrilling news for Sherman-Palladino fans (except for those holding out hope for yet another return to the Gilmore Girls well). The first episode was something special and left viewers wanting much, much more. And now we're gonna get it.
