The First Trailer For Spike TV’s Adaptation Of THE MIST Is Here
We've been waiting to catch a glimpse of Spike TV's adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist for quite a while now. Looks like today's our lucky day.
Check it out.
The trailer comes to us from Entertainment Weekly, who've also got a brief interview with the show's creator, Christian Torpe. Says Torpe:
“I wanted to be respectful to the source material, but my feeling was there was already a great adaptation out there by Frank Darabont...
The novella is 200 pages and one location, and we needed to change that to make an ongoing series. But we wanted to remain faithful to the heart of the story,”
What's that mean in practice? Well, for starters, the entire thing won't go down inside a grocery store. In this version of The Mist, characters are scattered all over one small town when ... whatever happens, happens (speaking of which: the mention of "Arrowhead" in that trailer should tell fans of the source material precisely what happened).
Incidentally, Torpe also says the show will be (unfortunately) timely:
“Unfortunately, I thought it was incredibly timely to do a show about what people do when they are blinded by fear. We look around at what’s going on in the world, and everyone is constantly looking for someone to blame, or someone to lead them to the promised land. They find people to hate, either because of their gender or race or faith. Those are elements we tap into — how fear drives things like misogyny and homophobia.”
Head on over to EW to read a whole bunch of other details about the series (including a surprisingly detailed character breakdown), or just head on down to the comments section to rhapsodize about how great Frank Darabont's ending was.
The Mist premieres on Spike TV on June 22nd.
