You’re Getting Three New X-MEN Universe Movies Next Year
Over the weekend, Entertainment Weekly dropped something of a bombshell: next year, Fox will release three new X-Men universe movies.
For starters, you've got Josh Boone's New Mutants, which will arrive on April 13th. Less than two months later, Deadpool 2 will hit theaters on June 1st. And then - because you demanded it! - the X-Men franchise is going to take yet another run at the Dark Phoenix storyline in Dark Phoenix, arriving on November 2nd.
Yes, another goddamn Dark Phoenix movie.
That's fairly annoying (seriously, find me someone who's clamoring to go through all that again), but we're curious to see what kind of results Boone's New Mutants film yields (it's being pitched as a YA approach to the X-Men franchise, which'll either be very interesting or very lame in practice), and we're definitely onboard to see what David Leitch does with Deadpool 2.
And, hey, if nothing else, it doesn't sound like Bryan Singer's going to do the Dark Phoenix movie: producer Simon Kinberg tells EW that he's interested in directing the film, and says this about the storyline:
“I definitely would love to take another stab at the Dark Phoenix story. The seeds of Phoenix definitely are planted in (Apocalypse). She can’t control her powers unless she either fully stops them or lets them all loose, and that’s kind of Phoenix. I think in future movies to come we’ll definitely see a bit more of that.”
I would literally rather watch a snuff film starring my grandparents than another X-Men movie revolving around the Dark Phoenix storyline, but maybe that's just me. Where do you guys stand on all this? Sound off in the comments below.
