Ridley Scott Says He’ll Start Shooting The Next ALIEN In 2018

Get ready for a bunch more ALIEN stills.

Alien: Covenant is almost here! Have you picked up your tickets yet?

In a new interview with IGN UK, Alien: Covenant director Ridley Scott reveals that the next Alien movie is being written even as we speak, and that he intends to start shooting the film sometime next year (or, specifically, "in the next 14 months").

There seems to be some confusion as to what the title of the next Alien movie will be (you may have heard it referred to as Alien: Awakening), but the word I'm hearing is that - while the script is being worked on - no title has yet been chosen. Whether or not it'll start shooting in 14 months is another question we'll have to keep an eye on, as the writing of Untitled Next Alien Movie continues.

Speaking of more Alien movies: in the same interview, Scott circles back to the corpse of Neil Blomkamp's now-cancelled Alien movie, just to give it another whack:

"They wanted to do (Neill Blomkamp's Alien movie). I said fine. I was going to be the producer. If I could have, I would have. Except I do question - why have both (Blomkamp's Alien and Scott's Alien) out there? It seems like shooting your big toe off - it doesn't make sense. But they didn't go forward with it, Fox, so I just kind of kept out of it."

Meanwhile, word on Alien: Covenant seems to be leaning mostly positive (it's running at 74% on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing), ahead of the film's May 19th arrival in US theaters. If you haven't already, definitely read Priscilla Page's Alien: Covenant review, and stand by for mine, which will hit Birth.Movies.Death. the same day Covenant hits theaters.

Stay tuned, folks, and be sure to pick up your Alien: Covenant tickets here before they sell out!
