Fox Announces New Space Comedy THE ORVILLE

They weren't making a new GALAXY QUEST, so Seth MacFarlane decided to do it for them.

It’s Upfronts time, which means we’re learning about what television networks have in store for us next. Lately we’ve seen a lot of original content get the ax, while rehashes of the same old stories keep getting revived or renewed. While The Orville unfortunately seems to fall into the latter category, it does have an interesting team behind it.

The show is created by and stars Seth MacFarlane, and will be directed by Jon Favreau. We’ll follow the crew of the U.S.S Orville while they experience their space adventures with humorous human-error hijinks ensuing in tandem. Joining MacFarlane on the cast list of the Galaxy Quest-esque show is Adrienne Palicki, Scott Grimes, Penny Johnson Jerald, and a whole host of other folks. You can check out the synopsis and trailer below!

THE ORVILLE is a one-hour science fiction series set 400 years in the future that follows the adventures of the U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory vessel. Its crew, both human and alien, faces the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of regular people in a workplace…even though some of those people are from other planets, and the workplace is a faster-than-light spaceship. In the 25th century, Earth is part of the Planetary Union, a far-reaching, advanced and mostly peaceful civilization with a fleet of 3,000 ships. Down on his luck after a bitter divorce, Planetary Union officer ED MERCER (MacFarlane) finally gets his chance to command one of these ships: the U.S.S. Orville.

That looks... uh, well it's nice to have spaceships on television. Fox’s newest addition has been slated for a 13 episode run for their first season. You can find the full synopsis and any other information they drop throughout the day on Fox’s website.
