THE ALIENIST Gets An Outstanding First Trailer

You'll never believe it, but this Cary Fukunaga-produced serial killer thriller looks super dark.

We've been looking forward to TNT's event series adaptation of Caleb Carr's The Alienist for a long, long time now. Produced by True Detective's Cary Fukunaga (who was also onboard to direct the entire thing at one point) and starring Luke Evans, Daniel Bruhl and Dakota Fanning, it appears The Alienist was probably worth the wait.

Check out this trailer.

Ye gods, man! That shit is dark. I suppose that's probably unavoidable when you're dealing with subject matter like "serial killer stalks and murders 'boy-whores' in turn-of-the-century London", but still. One can't help but wonder how far TNT will allow The Alienist to push that envelope.

Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that Luke Evans is in this? Dude pulled off one helluva one-two punch over the last couple years (rampaging across the screen in Ben Wheatley's High-Rise before singing and dancing his way through Bill Condon's Beauty And The Beast), and it's now officially a distinct pleasure to see him show up. Rest of the cast is great, as well.

As an added bonus, it's directed by Jakob Verbruggen, last seen delivering Black Mirror S3's effective "Men Against Fire".

Yeah, we're all in for this one. No word on how long we'll be waiting (according to Dark Horizons, the show is still in production in Budapest), but we'll certainly keep you informed as progress gets made. You guys feeling The Alienist as much as we are?
