Lionsgate To Get Yelled At For Distributing New Mel Gibson Crime Thriller

Wring them hands: here comes DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE.

It’s hard to keep up with what the internet is Mad Online™ about from one day to the next - especially when you're the one who's Mad Online™! We get it; it all starts to run together after a while. So we'll start with a quick refresher on Dragged Across Concrete, a movie you were definitely pee-oh’d about when you heard it announced back in February.

The thriller, from writer/director S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk), will be a work of fiction in which two fictional cops get themselves in fictional hot water when their fictional strong-arm tactics are caught on fictional tape (or iPhone, I guess). The two disgraced-yet-fictional cops (played by, brace yourselves, Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn) descend into the criminal underworld for “their just due,” but fictional things apparently don’t go according to fictional plan.

Word comes today from Cannes that the film - a made-up story produced by Bone Tomahawk’s Jack Heller and Dallas Sonnier, as well as Keith Kjarval and Sefton Fincham - will be distributed in the US by Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment label. Lionsgate is no doubt STOKED for you to tell them how problematic this film is, and will no doubt be taking notes as you scream yourself hoarse on various social media platforms today and, like a goldfish with no long-term memory, once again upon the film’s release. Here's a quote from Jason Constantine, their president of acquisitions and co-productions.

“We are delighted to be working again with Mel Gibson who helmed our double Oscar winner Hacksaw Ridge along with Vince Vaughn and the great production team behind this film...It’s a double treat to have screenwriter S. Craig Zahler also direct what will be an intense film for audiences.”

Production on Dragged Across Concrete begins in Vancouver on July 17th. Petitions against the film can be created here
