People are going to compare Logan Lucky to a Coen Brothers movie, because those gentlemen have carved out the Dumb Criminal space quite effectively for themselves over the years. But to call it Coen Brothers-esque is to do a great disservice to Steven Soderbergh, who for decades has moved into whatever genre he wants and made it his own.
That continues to be the case with Logan Lucky, as evidenced by the film's first trailer.
That cast roll call is epic (and the "and introducing..." bit is just marvelous). It's such a collection of talent that we don't even care that Seth McFarlane is in this movie. Give this to us now.
The official synopsis:
Trying to reverse a family curse, brothers Jimmy (Channing Tatum) and Clyde Logan (Adam Driver) set out to execute an elaborate robbery during the legendary Coca-Cola 600 race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The production shot at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the actual NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 and the Bank of America 500, as well as at Atlanta Motor Speedway. In a fun twist, six NASCAR stars pop up in non-driver cameo roles in the film.
Logan Lucky opens on August 18th. We can not wait.
