Hailee Steinfeld Thinks A BUMBLEBEE Movie Would Be A Good Move
Look, I like money. I wish I had more of it. I can’t begrudge actors doing things at are beneath them for a hefty paycheck. Despite all the promise Hailee Steinfeld has shown in her career thus far and the fact that this involves her joining the Transformers Universe, that’s not what this is about.
Yes, you heard me right. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hailee Steinfeld, star of True Grit and Edge of Seventeen, is in talks to star in the upcoming Bumblebee spin-off - a movie about a Transformer who once gained the ability to talk and then had it more or less stripped from him for reasons I can’t remember but don’t think were explained. He’s supposed to be, but never has been, the lovable puppy dog of this series all kids want to bond with. Now Steinfeld's going to give it a shot.
What this is about is the fact that casting a lead actress brings this project one step closer to legitimacy. I guess it was over when they hired a director (Kubo and the Two Strings’ Travis Knight), but now that they’re going for actors, it’s starting to get real.
Steinfeld is great, and I hope she makes the most of this if she gets the part. Travis Knight is great, too, so there’s hope there as well. But still, there’s no part of this that is not disappointing in some way or another.
