The Hollywood Reporter's got a big post up today titled "Can Universal Create a Marvel-Like Universe With The Mummy and Other Monster Flicks?", and....well, the piece does right what it says on the tin: they go through the math project by project, openly wondering whether or not Universal's Dark Universe experiment - which will kick off in just a matter of weeks with Alex Kurtzman's The Mummy - will pan out.
Three quarters of the way through the piece, there's some talk about the status of Bill Condon's Bride Of Frankenstein, which is currently angling to bring Angelina Jolie onboard in the titular role, and then there's this:
"There are rumors that Dwayne Johnson could resurface in the "monsterverse" for a Wolfman reboot (he starred in 2002's Mummy spinoff The Scorpion King)."
Now there's something we'd not heard before.
Inserting The Rock into the Dark Universe would certainly be a shrewd move on Universal's part - people love The Rock! - but one can't help but wonder when the hell The Rock would have time to headline a Wolfman movie. As we speak, he's currently attached to, filming or preparing to film Jungle Cruise, Doc Savage, San Andreas 2, Journey 3: From The Earth To The Moon, Black Adam and Shazam, Jumanji 2: Welcome To The Jungle, Rampage, Skyscraper, the long-rumored Big Trouble In Little China remake, and something called Fighting With My Family.
One also cannot help but wonder if The Rock is a good fit for The Wolfman.
For now, this is just a rumor. Nothing to see here, move along, and all that. But it's an interesting rumor, and I'm curious what you guys make of it. Assuming The Rock finds a place for it, wouldja be interested in seeing him play The Wolfman? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below.
