On July 18 there is going to be a benefit concert in Toronto to help Jake Thomas, nephew to Dave Thomas, get care after a snowmobiling accident that left him paralyzed. Proceeds will also go to Spinal Cord Injury Ontario. Canadians really take care of each other.
I’m not kidding either, as this is not just some random charity concert. For starters, it will include a reunion between Bob and Doug McKenzie, the lovable beer chuggers known to most from their film Strange Brew (which is still hilarious, btw). This means Rick Moranis is temporarily coming out of his famous retirement, just for this benefit. Canadians really take care of each other.
That would be plenty, but there’s a ton more going on here. Paul Shaffer will play music. Martin Short is hosting AND doing an interview as Jiminy Glick, who I love even though I imagine most people detest the character. Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Joe Flaherty and Dan Aykroyd are showing up too, along with Kids in the Hall members Dave Foley, Scott Thompson and Kevin McDonald. Canadians really take care of each other.
This is going to happen at The Second City Toronto, and with any luck, someone will be there to capture it. It sounds like the comedy party of the year, and we need a record of this! Who do these stinking Canadians think they are!?
