NEW MUTANTS Finds Its Cannonball And Sunspot On Netflix

Stars of STRANGER THINGS and 13 REASONS WHY join Josh Boone's X-horror movie.

According to Variety, Josh Boone's New Mutants (which we recently learned will be a "full-fledged horror movie") has just filled out two more of its roles, and they're both making the jump from Netflix.

First up, Stranger Things' Charlie Heaton is now in talks to play Cannonball, a mutant who "uses the ability to fly at jet speeds while encased in an impenetrable force field". 13 Reasons Why's Henry Zaga, meanwhile, has joined the production as Sunspot, who has the ability to "absorb and channel solar power".

Variety also has a slightly more detail breakdown on the film's overall plot:

"Fox/Marvel redefines the superhero genre once again with the horror thriller, The New Mutants. Mutants are at their most dangerous, both to themselves and others, when their powers are new, especially because mutation reveals itself during the teenage years. Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their pasts. They aren’t out to save the world – they’re just trying to stay alive."

These Netflix veterans are joining the already-cast Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams and Rosario Dawson. More casting announcements are expected as we ramp up to the film's start date, so stay tuned for a few more of those in the near future.

In the meantime: what do you guys make of the casting on New Mutants thus far? Seems decent to me, but I'm still really intrigued by the idea of a "horror/thriller" movie in the X-Men universe.
