There are enough “next Kevin Smith” movies out there that you could probably make a Bingo card out of them by now. There was a Clerks one, a Mallrats one, Moose Turds or whatever, I dunno Buckaroo Banzai, probably another Dogma in there somewhere, a trans update on Chasing Amy, a porno Superman movie and I believe a remake of Annie Hall. Apologies if I missed one.
Now he has another, which is actually one of the old ones but with a new coat of paint. Way back in the day, Smith wanted to make a movie about Christmas demon Krampus. But then Michael Dougherty got ahead of him on that one. So now Smith is taking that script and removing all the Krampus/Christmas stuff to make a horror anthology, Killroy was Here.
Killroy is the film’s monster, who I guess shows up in every part of the anthology. He was designed by Robert Kurtzman and apparently was inspired by WWII graffiti that featured “a long nosed cartoon character”. Soooooooo, not sure what to think of that.
According to Smith, Killroy is “like the Golem, the Boogeyman and the Grim Reaper combined” and like Creepshow or Tales from the Crypt, the anthology will be filled with morality tales.
Unlike all those other Smith projects, this is actually happening. Like, they’re filming it right now in Florida with the help of a bunch of college kids. So watch out!
