X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX: Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy All Confirmed To Return
Things are moving full steam ahead for 20th Century Fox's X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Yesterday we learned that Jessica Chastain was in talks to join the film as the possibly-villainous Lilandra, and today Deadline has confirmed a slew of other cast members to return...and a release date!
Here's the news:
"Fox has formalized plans for Dark Phoenix, the next installment of the X-Men franchise. This all just happened, but they’ve set Simon Kinberg as director (long rumored), and the studio set a release date of November 2, 2018. Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Kodi Smit-McPhee are all reprising when production begins in Montreal."
Whether or not this is good news will depend entirely on how much you enjoy these actors playing these characters. Or how you feel about Simon Kinberg directing them. Or how you feel about getting yet another iteration of the Dark Phoenix storyline. Or X-Men movies in general. Lotta variables here (my official response could best be described as "shrug emoji", but don't let that dissuade you from being excited if these movies are your bag).
The most interesting part of the above is the reveal that they've already got this thing dated for November of next year. Kinberg - making the jump from producer to director after working on this franchise for over a decade - will have to work very efficiently to get the film delivered in time for that release date. Here's hoping he knows what he's doing!
Stay tuned for more on X-Men: Dark Phoenix as it becomes available. At the very least, we've probably got more casting announcements to look forward to in the very near future.
