Wonder Woman kicked ass. A sorely-needed triumph for the DCEU that proved there’s some gas left in the tank, and for all intents and purposes, a victory for women in studio filmmaking. Patty Jenkins hasn’t signed on to direct the sequel yet – let’s hope she negotiates a massive payday – but chances are she probably will, what with her involvement with its initial stages.
While speaking to Variety, DC Comics C.C.O., DC Films Co-Chairman and all-round extremely busy dude Geoff Johns offered the following update:
Patty and I are writing the treatment right now. The goal is to make another great “Wonder Woman” film. I had a blast making it with Patty the first time. We’ve got a cool idea for the second one.
This bodes well! Granted, a treatment isn’t exactly a first draft, but the folks at DC seem enthusiastic about what she brings to the table.
The studio system is complicated, especially when it comes to big tentpole films. Not everyone gets along creatively at all times (take the recent Han Solo news) but it sounds like Jenkins, who once parted ways with Marvel over Thor: The Dark World, seems to have found herself in a comfortable position. Let’s hope it continues.
