PROUD MARY Poster Is A Beautiful Blaxploitation Throwback

Holy moly, Taraji P. Henson.

Somehow, we had no idea the great Taraji P. Henson was starring as a contract killer in a movie called Proud Mary, but now we do, and we can begin making amends.

We'll start by presenting the poster, tweeted out yesterday by the film's official Twitter account. Just take a look at this thing:

IMDB's logline - "An assassin meets a young boy who sparks her maternal instinct" - doesn't spark much confidence, but that poster really, really does, with the colour scheme, composition, and tagline bringing to mind old Pam Grier blaxploitation movies. Some footage was presented at CinemaCon earlier in the year, set (of course) to the Creedence song, and at the time, it was compared - in content, if not necessarily quality - to John Wick.

Proud Mary's cast also includes Danny Glover, Margaret Avery, and Neal McDonough, but the real drawcard is director Babak Najafi, best known for London Has Fallen. That movie was precisely the kind of wanton, entertaining trash I, for one, want to see from a movie with this poster. Hopefully Henson gets a few good head-stabbings in.
