According to a new report over at The Wrap, Jared Leto (Suicide Squad, the forthcoming Blade Runner 2049) is in early talks to appear in Sony's Bloodshot, one of several films the studio hopes to release in support of a Valiant Comics Cinematic Universe.
Apparently the idea here is to introduce Bloodshot in Harbinger ("which follows a teenage runaway with massive telekinetic powers") before giving the character his own solo film a year later. Bloodshot, as you may or may not know, concerns "a mortally-wounded soldier resurrected with cutting-edge nanotechnology and tasked with rounding up 'harbingers.'” Curiously enough, The Wrap specifies that Leto's Bloodshot character is not known at this time. He won't necessarily be playing the lead role, in other words.
None of this sounds particularly great, but if there's a saving grace here, it's this: the Bloodshot screenplay is being written by Arrival's Oscar-nominated screenwriter, Eric Heisserer, who recently scored another win when his Bird Box script (based on the creepy horror novel of the same name) was picked up for production by Netflix.
Nothing further to report at this time, but we'll keep you informed as updates roll in. In the meantime, where do you folks stand on a series of Valiant comic book movies? Into it, not so much? Sound off in the comments below.
