It's been quite a while since we heard anything about Robert Eggers' Nosferatu remake. For a while there it was his next project, the intended follow-up to Eggers' low-key horror hit, The Witch. Then we heard he was backburnering it in favor of a Rasputin miniseries. Then we heard he was working on something called The Knight.
And then...silence. Many months of silence.
Well, today we're happy to have an exciting update: not only is Nosferatu moving ahead, but - according to Variety - The Witch's Anya Taylor-Joy has entered negotiations to star in the film.
Right now there's no confirmation on what role Taylor-Joy might be playing, but some are speculating that she might be taking on the role of "Ellen Hutter, a character who becomes the bloodsucking obsession of Nosferatu." Sounds about right.
The Witch put Taylor-Joy on Hollywood's radar in a big way - she's been steadily busy ever since that one arrived - and if the Nosferatu negotiations pan out, this will be one of several high-profile items on the actress' to-do list, including Josh Boone's The New Mutants and M. Night Shyamalan's Glass (where she'll reprise the role she crushed earlier this year in Split). We think Taylor-Joy rules, so we're fine with all of this...but we do wish Nosferatu would get here sooner rather than later.
How long will we have to wait? No word as of yet, but given Taylor-Joy's other commitments, we could be waiting for a while. Stay tuned for updates as they roll in.
