George R.R. Martin Is Not Watching GAME OF THRONES

So don’t send him any spoilers.

Woe is the viewer who watches Game of Thrones just a tiny bit later than everyone else and must navigate social media without getting spoiled. Enthusiasm for the show is high, and people have a hard time holding back key episode details, sometimes even while the episode is airing.

That’s not a problem for George R.R. Martin, however, because the guy doesn’t even watch his own show. In an interview with Metro, Martin revealed that he has no time to watch new episodes of Game of Thrones due to his writing and “touring” schedule.

This should actually comfort fans of the book because it indicates that he IS writing and bolsters the notion that events on the television show won’t impact plotting in The Winds of Winter. Martin himself commented on the difference between the books and show:

“The book series and TV adaptation go their separate ways," Martin told Metro. “On the screen characters are killed right and left. About twenty of them have died already, which are quite alive to me and will appear in a new book.”

It’s going to be very interesting to see exactly what that means when The Winds of Winter comes out, if it comes out.
